Environmental Challenges and Opportunities of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit Outcomes
WWF Policy Brief on Environmental Challenges and Opportunities of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Johannesburg Summit Outcomes
The policy brief finds that the FOCAC Johannesburg Action Plan overall only responds to some extent to environmental goals and targets of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 First Ten-Year Implementation Plan (FTYIP). However, a number of Johannesburg FOCAC outcomes that can provide a solid basis for supporting the achievement of Agenda 2063 FTYIP’s environmental provisions are also identified. Furthermore, recommendations are offered on how new institutional arrangements and mechanisms established by the Johannesburg FOCAC Summit, ranging from finance to support for capacity-building and technology transfer, can be strategically leveraged by African countries towards achieving their environmental goals and targets.
